Do you have a niche marketing strategy? If you are not marketing to a niche market, you are wasting time and resources. If you think you have a product that everyone needs, then you have to ask yourself if you have the money and the resources to market to everyone. You do not, plain and simple.

No one has that kind of time, resources, or money. This is why you need to choose a target market and start promoting to them and only them. The truth is that you are better to be a big fish in a small pond verses being a small fish in a large pond.

Pick a market where your product will stand out from all others. Pick a niche that will support your business; you need paying customers. The niche that is the most profitable will be the most competitive, but if you can find a profitable niche with few competitors, or one that is being under served, you will do well.

The best way to approach business is to find the niche first and then find out what people in the niche want and then provide the product. But perhaps you did not go this route. Instead you developed your product and now you need to match it to a profitable niche. This not the better way to start, but you can still make money.

You might have a product related to appliance repair. There is a large market for appliance repair, but it is so large market that it would be difficult for you to break into. But with a little creative thinking, you can promote your appliance repair related products to people in the real estate investment market who need to provide tenants with appliances that work.

Once you have customers in that market you can start developing products specifically for real estate investors, which is a great niche market. You started with an appliance repair product but you adapted to fit the need of a particular niche market.

The next question you need to ask when choosing a niche market is if you can reach potential customers in a cost effective way. If you primarily promote on the internet, you will have many ways to reach your niche market in ways that will only cost you time and not money.

You can write articles related to your niche market and submit them to online article directories. You can join online forums related to your target market and make helpful posts. In your posts, include your website address so people will be able to visit your website and read more about your product or service.

To succeed in business, you have to pick a niche market to promote to. Only then will your targeted ads and other promotions bring money into your company. You have a great opportunity in this economy to find the right market and provide the product that will sell. It takes a little work but the rewards are well worth the effort.

Getting leads is not the hard part. The hard part is figuring out how to turn leads into prospects! Some business owners think they can just get the word out and customers will buy if they are interested. Do not fall into this thinking! No matter what type of business you have, you need to actively work to convert those leads into buying customers. Below are some tips you can apply to any business, whether it is a phone-based sales company, an Internet-based business or store, or even a brick-and-mortar retail shop!

Know your target. You need to understand your customer base. Who is buying and what are they buying? Focusing your marketing dollars on that type of customer will instantly result in a higher lead conversion rate!

Ask a lot of questions. Do you really know what your customer wants? Are you sure? You need to be sure. More importantly, you need to know why a lead did not buy from you. There are many tools for this; phone calls, surveys, newsletter polls, and postcards for example. Once you find out what they need, be prepared to let them know exactly how your products or services can help them.

Offer plenty of options. For either financial reasons or a sense of caution, people may not take the plunge right away. By having a lot of different things to offer in various price ranges or levels (such as VIP, gold, basic) customers can test the waters without taking the plunge. Offer them the option of signing up for a newsletter or mailing. If you have a social networking fan page, let them know about it. Whatever you do, do not lose that lead! Keep them connected to your business.

Change your approach. Throw an event, have a big sale, or offer a special promotion. Do anything you can that will give you a reason to contact a lead with an exciting new offer. The key here is to keep your business fresh, and thereby keep it interesting. Maybe the lead who has been hovering in the background will finally be tempted to purchase! At any rate, it will certainly keep current customers coming back.

Follow up. People are literally assaulted by advertisements. They are under constant demand for their money and time. It can be difficult, but you need to keep your business in their minds. Again, newsletters are a good tool (even if they do not read them, your business name is in front of their face). Advertise locally or send postcard mailings regularly. It often takes more than five hits to convert a lead to a prospect.

Keep track of things. You will want to get into the habit of keeping copies of all marketing materials and sales reports. If possible, organize them according to date. Then you will be able to see what marketing strategies are working. It will give you a clearer picture of what turns your leads into paying customers.

Yes, it is hard work. But so is running a business. Take the extra time and you are sure to see your leads turn into prospects.
