Scented Candles, What you Should Know!
Scented candles have been very popular and continue to gain in popularity. They are used as an attractive addition to the home décor; they are used to help people to relax after a hard days work, gaining in popularity is using scented candles in aromatherapy and one of the most amazing things that scented candles do is to bring you back to happy memories.
With all of the fragrances available today you can find a scented candle for just about any scent. For example come February when you are feeling trapped by the winter months keeping you inside your house you might want to buy a fresh cut grass scented candle to remind you of the spring or summer months.
Scented candles can also be purchased in a wide array of candle styles and types. You have taper candles, pillar candles, jar candles and votive candles to name a few. You can find a scented candle for just about any occasion and candle purpose.
Highly scented candles are generally made using one of two different types of fragrance. The first would be to use fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are synthetically produced fragrances. They may have some natural components to them but they are not 100% natural. Most scented candles are made with fragrance oils to keep the cost of the candle to a price that just about anyone can afford.
The second type of fragrance is essential oils. While essential oils are 100% natural they typically run 3 to 4 times the price of fragrance oils. This makes using them for scenting candles impractical for most people. Since typically the fragrance is biggest factor in determining the cost of a candle the candle created with essential oils is priced to high for most people.
Candles made from fragrance oils tend to burn more consistently and evenly than essential oils. This is because stabilizers are added to fragrance oils to enhance the way that they burn. Since essential oils are 100% natural these stabilizers cannot be added. For those of you wanting to go green in my opinion and the opinion of many chemists that I have spoken to the amount of non-natural ingredients in most fragrance oils is not enough to be concerned about. So you can feel comfortable in knowing that fragrance is not going to be a big factor in your candle decision.
The biggest factor in have a green scented candle is the wax used in the candle. Paraffin wax is one of the worst types of candles on the market today since it has 11 know toxins that are emitted when the candle is burned. A much better alternative to paraffin candles is Soy Candles or Beeswax Candles.
