People who enjoy music consider guitar as a piece of art. This instrument has been played by various artists throughout history. It has been played for imparting entertainment, for fun, for attaining perfection in playing and for monetary gain. Along the way, in history, there have been some players who will be remembered forever for their legendary skills in playing guitars. These people have written their names in association with this musical instrument and will be remembered for many eras to come.

Names like Carlos Santana, Jimmy Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Page, Tom Morello and Bruce Springsteen are all famed guitarists of their time. They hail from, both, the new age and classical rock bands as well as solo artists that made it on their own. They have all served as an inspirational force to those who are fascinated by this instrument and want to become like them.

Born in the Mexico City, Carlos Augusto Alves Santana has ruled the world of music with his riveting guitar tunes. This American Grammy Award winning talent has far-reaching control over his Spanish guitar and has attained perfection in playing the electric instrument. The mixing of different varieties of these two instruments introduced by Santana totally mesmerizes the senses of the listeners. His platinum attaining hit records include Shaman, Supernatural, Zebop, Abraxas and self-titled album Santana, all, of which have reached the top ten list of Billboard charts.

The legendary Kurt Cobain, also famous due to his controversial death, is also remembered as one of the very few guitarists who rocked the world to their feet. The guitarist and lead singer of Nirvana has been the primary reason for the band’s huge success. His tracks like “Smells like Teen Spirit” and “Come as You Are” are still heard by millions around the world as their rock anthems.

When discussing about hard rock bands that have rocked the metal genre, particularly through the amazing talents of their guitarists, Metallica, without any doubt, comes on the top. Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist and songwriter for Metallica, is privileged as the 11th best guitarist in the 100 best guitar players of Rolling Stone. Prior to joining Metallica, he played guitar with the underground band Exodus. Joining Metallica refined his guitar playing abilities to an unmatchable level. Jimmy Patrick Page, the guitarist of Led Zeppelin is another big name in the line-up of history’s legendary guitarists. Due to his guitar wonders, Led Zeppelin was the most successful band of the 70′s. Ranked at number 9 in the Rolling Stone’s list, he was considered as one of the most influential and versatile guitarists of all time.

Tom Morello is another name worth-mentioning, when discussing new age rock idols. Tom is the guitarist of the band Audioslave, who have enjoyed a great deal of success in the recent past.

Their versatility is especially noticeable in the guitar works of Morello.
